Ladies Annual Meeting 

The Ladies AGM takes place on Saturday, January 17th at 7pm in the Lavey Inn. Everyone welcome.

Bereavement Support 

For those who are finding it hard to cope with the death of a loved one there is a free and confidential service. Trained volunteers are available to meet you privately. New Grants Available 

If you are receiving Fuel Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance with children under 7 or Family Income Support you may be entitled to a complete wall and attic insulation package and heating upgrades free of charge. Ring 087-2500436 for more information and advice.

The senior team will play their opening game of 2015 on February 22nd against Mullahoran at New Inn in the Breffni League.

Sends her sincere thanks to all for their generosity to the recent collection for the orphans in Zambia. A total of €820 was raised.

GAA 

Well done to Chris Conroy on his performance for Cavan seniors in the win over Monaghan in the Dr. McKenna Cup on Sunday last in Kingspan Breffni Park. 

The Juvenile GFC have registration for Boys U8s and U10s on Sunday, January 25th at New Inn from 12 noon to 1pm. To register for U8s boys must be aged six this year. 

The Ladies Club also have registration on Sunday, January 25th at the same time. All players up to U16 is €10 each. Any new players must have a copy of their birth certificate. As club policy all players must be registered before training commences. Senior registration will take place in the months ahead.

Eucharistic Adoration 

The Adoration Committee of Kilmore is developing it's Diocesan Team. Information meeting in the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cavan on Saturday, January 31st from 11am to 12.30pm. Refreshments served. 

Liturgical Music Workshop

Lavey Ladies 

An appreciation evening for everyone that took part or was involved in the Christmas swim will take place in the Community Centre on Saturday, February 7th from 7pm. Both cheques will be presented to the two charities - Friends of Cavan General Children's Ward and the Oncology Unit. Also presentation of medals to Lavey Ladies Minors 2014. Light refreshments will be served followed by disco. Everyone welcome. 

Game Tasting Night

The senior team's Breffni League game against Mullahoran due to be played on Sunday last at New Inn was postponed due to the adverse weather conditions. Their season will now commence when they play Cootehill in Round 2 on Sunday March 8th at 2.30pm in Cootehill. 

The minor team will commence their league campaign on Saturday, February 28th against Belturbet away at 3.30pm. 

Membership for 2015 is now open. The membership desk will be open at home league matches. Adult membership is €30, children (U18) and students is €10. 

Cavan play Down in the National League on Saturday, February 28th in Kingspan Breffni Park. Tickets are €10 if purchased beforehand or €15 on the night. Tickets on sale at Kingspan Breffni Park or SuperValu. 

Bingo takes place every Sunday night at 9pm in the Lavey Inn. There will be a big bingo for St. Patrick's weekend with extra prize money.

The minor team lost by 4-14 to 4-5 to Denn in the league at New Inn on Saturday last. Their next game is away to Cornafean. Check fixtures list for details.

Liturgy Group 

Meeting takes place for Upper Lavey Wednesday, March 25th at 8pm. 

GAA 

The senior team defeated Ballyhaise in Round 1 of the ACFL at New Inn on Sunday by 3-17 to 1-15. 

The U16 team commenced their league campaign against Redbridge with a loss by 3-16 to 10-5 on Saturday last at New Inn. Their next game is against Crosserlough on Sunday, March 29th in Kilnaleck at 5pm. 

The Ladies are holding an  injury workshop tonight (Wednesday, March 25th) at 8pm and Saturday, March 28th at 10am both at New Inn. This is to advise all concerned regarding club procedures on injuries, etc. Also players can register at the workshop - €30 for over 18 and €10 for students and under 18. New players must have a copy of their birth certificate.

Easter Bonnet Party 

This event organised by the Senior Social Club will take place on Tuesday, April 7th. Dinner will be served at 1.30pm followed by music. Prize for best bonnet. Admission €15. Anyone attending should give their name to Kathleen at 087-6168426 or Maura at 086-3028304 by April 3. Bus will do pick up at 12.30pm. 

Easter Ceremonies 

Mass on Holy Thursday in Lower and Upper at 8pm. Good Friday ceremonies at 3pm in both churches. Also Stations of the Cross at 7.30pm in Lower and Prayers around the Cross at 9pm in Upper. On Saturday the Easter Vigil Mass will be at 8.30pm in Lower and at 9pm in Upper.

 Congratulations to Julianne Tierney and Dearbhla Smith who won 1st and 2nd prize respectively in Cavan Library's  'Seachtain Na Gaeilge' Art Competition. Well done girls! 

GAA 

The senior team play Kingscourt in the Breffni League on Saturday, April 4th at New Inn at 6pm. 

The U16 team lost to Crosserlough by 2-14 to 4-4 in the league on Sunday last in Kilnaleck. They were due to play Laragh at New Inn on Tuesday, March 31st. 

Well done to Chris Conroy and the Cavan senior team on the National League victory over Westmeath on Saturday evening in Kingspan Breffni Park. They play Meath in Navan on Sunday next, April 5th with promotion still very much a possibility. 

Hard luck to Gerard Smith and the Cavan U21s on the recent defeat to Donegal in the Ulster Championship. 

Well done to Fr. Kevin Fay and the St. Pat's Cavan team on their great win in the McRory Cup over St. Pat's Dungannon. Hard luck to them on Saturday last in the Hogan Cup semi-final in Nenagh when they were so close to victory against Pobscoil Corca Dhuibhne.

The committee would like to thank all who supported and helped in any way to make the family quiz night a very successful and enjoyable night.

GAA

The senior team had a win over Kingscourt in the Breffni League by 2-18 to 1-9 on Saturday evening at New Inn. They play Cavan Gaels in the same competition on Sunday, April 12th in Terry Coyle Park at 3.30pm.

The minor team play Cornafean in the league on Saturday, April 11th at 5pm in Cornafean.

The U16 team lost to Laragh in the league on Sunday last. They play Erne Gaels away Wednesday, April 8th at 7pm.

The U14 team play Laragh in Stradone Thursday, April 9th at 7pm.

The senior team had another win in the Breffni League on Sunday last when defeating Cavan Gaels by 1-11 to 0-10 in Terry Coyle Park. On Sunday next, April 19th the ACFL resumes with Lavey playing Ramor Utd in Virginia. The reserve game is at 2pm followed by the senior at 3.30pm.

Congratulations to Bronagh Smith and Emer Rudden who have qualified for the All Ireland Final of Mathletes Challenge 2015. The competition will take place in DCU on May 2nd. This is a wonderful achievement and we wish them well!

The senior team played out a draw with Ballinagh in the ACFL on Sunday last at New Inn scoring 0-16 to the visitor's tally of 1-13. The next game is on Friday, May 1st against Lacken at New Inn at 7.30pm.

Ladies GAA

St. Dympna's Well

Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 10th with Mass at 3pm. Blessing of graves in the old cemetery at 2.30pm.

Lavey Ladies

Charity Walk

A 5K charity walk in aid of Pieta House will take place on Saturday morning, May 9th around Cavan town. It will commence at 4.15am at the Farnham Hotel. Please support.

The senior team had an important win in the ACFL recently when defeating Cavan Gaels by 2-7 to 1-6 at New Inn. On Sunday last they lost by 1-14 to 2-10 to Ballinagh in the Breffni League in Ballinagh.

Welcome Home 

It was with delight that news came during last week that all charges against Aisling Brady McCarthy in Boston, USA had been dropped bringing an end to the nightmare that she had to endure since January 2013. She returned to Ireland on a flight to Shannon Airport  early on Wednesday morning. The news was greeted with great relief and delight in Lavey and she is welcomed back to the parish with open arms. It is hoped that Aisling will be given the space in the short term to focus on recovery and rebuilding her life and that her and her family will return to live normal lives after this horrific ordeal.

The Senior Social Club and Sr. Mary Courtney are thankful to all who took part in the blanket knitting project last winter. Presentation of 25 blankets to Sr. Mary took place on August 20th. Based on the ongoing need for these items, it is intended to continue the project over the winter months. All help appreciated and any queries to Catherine at 086-3544172.

A 5K walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society's Action Breast Cancer will take place on Saturday, October 24th commencing at the Lavey Inn at 11.30am. Registration at 11am at the venue. It will commence at the Lavey Inn and conclude at Gray's Lavey Service Station where refreshments will be provided. Please support. 

Ceili House 

To promote the Ed Reavy/Dancing in The Drumlins weekend October 15th-18th, RTE Radio 1's Ceili House went out live on Saturday night last. It featured four Lavey musicians - Catriona Cullivan Smith (Drumhirk) on Piano, Seamus and Gareth Tierney (Killyconnan) on Flute and Piano Accordion and Daire Smith (Carriga) on Bodhran. Well done to all. Apologies for not including this in last week's news in advance of the event.

Fundraising 5K Walk 

Will take place on Sunday, November 8th from the Community Centre at 2pm in aid of the Senior Social Club. Entry fee is €5, children are free, and donations will be greatly appreciated. Tea and biscuits will be served in the Centre afterwards, The money raised will go towards the cost of providing a bus to take members on their monthly outings. Please wear visibility jackets on the day.

The children in Killyconnan National School brought in 93 shoe boxes for the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. Thank you to everyone for their support and well done.

Assan Gaels drew with Castlerahan in the semi-final of the U21 Championship on Saturday last on the Kingspan Breffni Park 3G pitch scoring 0-13 to the opposition's tally of 2-7. The replay will presumably take place this coming weekend. Check fixtures list for details.

Senior Social Club 

Christmas Party will take place on Sunday, December 6th in the Community Centre. Dinner served at 1pm followed by an afternoon of music and dancing, raffles and spot prizes. The replay of the U21 Championship final between Assan Gaels and Ramor Utd. did not go ahead on Sunday last due to a frozen pitch. It has been refixed for Friday, December 18th on the Kingspan Breffni Park 3G pitch at 8.45pm.   

Club AGM took place on Wednesday night last  in The Lavey Inn. Most of the officers remain the same for 2016. Chairman - Martin Smith, Vice Chairman - Damien Tynan, Secretary - Terry Smith, Joint Treasurers - Seamus Smith and Ciaran Smith, Joint PRO - Paula Rutherford, Coaching Officer - Ivo Fay.

Newly elected were Mark Donohoe as Assistant Secretary and Teresa Conaty as Joint PRO. A number of positions will filled at an upcoming meeting of the Club Executive. 

The Bingo continues in The Lavey Inn on Sunday nights at 9pm. Next Sunday, December 20th will be a special one for Christmas with extra prizes on all games. Minimum €50 per line, €100 per panel along with spot prizes on all games.

2016 Peace Proms 

Well done to Daire Smith who as a member of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland will be performing a selection of works at the New Year's Day Peace Proms at the National Convention Centre, Dublin. The Peace Proms is being heralded as a landmark event and will kick-start the official 2016 centenary celebrations.

Also a 5K walk from the Equestrian Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Will take place in Virginia College on Wednesday, January 6th from 4.30pm to 8pm. Please support.
